So to all of those people saying ‘Emma doesn’t acknowledge Regina as Henry’s mom despite ten years of parenting’ and ‘Henry’s a little shit who doesn’t care at all about his REAL MOM OMFG!!!11!1!!!’… yeah. He looks super worried that Regina’s in trouble, and it’s clear that he’s been worried for a while at this point.
And Emma immediately and firmly, without question, validates that concern and promises to sort it. Which is both good parenting - validating him and not brushing aside his concerns because of her own views - and it shows that she understands and appreciates why he’d be worried - she knows he sees Regina as his mother as much as he does Emma, and understands it, and more than that, she does nothing to discourage it in him either.
She might tell Regina to back off because she continually threatens Emma’s entire family, and she might claim Henry as her son, but she does nothing to tell Henry he should feel differently from how he does at any point. And I’d like to add, that if something happened to Emma, Snow and Charming, and Regina was the only one Henry could turn to, she wouldn’t be so quick and firm about getting the rest of his family back: she’d be crowing and trying to make him forget all about them.
Emma doesn’t do that: Charming and Snow are looking for her for the beans, but Henry and therefore Emma are in it to find and save Regina herself.

Fic: Yellow (Sunbeams, blondes, and lemon shampoo)
Title: Yellow (Sunbeams, blondes, and lemon shampoo)
Summary: Baelfire was running away, but Neal prefers to chase. He starts another new life in another new world. Swan thief.
A/N: WOOO FINALLY NEAL POV. Thank you Manhattan! For Celina, but let’s face it, all my swan thief fics are for her :)
Baelfire’s only been in this world without magic for a few days, and he hates it already.
It’s a disappointment: it has taken him so much longer than he’d expected to get here, and he’s been dreaming of settling someplace far away from fairies and magic and the dark for so long. He wanted to get to this place, the world he was promised so very long ago, and know peace.
Emma, I like you vs. JUDGING YOU CHARMING.
And jebus on Gold trusting Emma, even knowing that Henry potentially could be fatal for him. Gold TRUSTING someone who isn’t Belle or Bae. Gold and Emma have such a fantastic, fascinating relationship and I love it.
I feel like all the villains kinda sorta end up liking/trusting Emma? obvs there’s Hook, who’s attracted to her and knows his BS can’t get past her. but I think Cora respected her judgments, a little, in the pit, with the whole “we need as many allies as we can get even if I don’t know this person” thing. and then she said to Emma the same thing she said to her own daughter: “Love is weakness”. with her hand in Emma’s chest, yes, but her plan was always to give the heart to her daughter, and she can’t do that if the heart is crushed. and I’d like to think that Sidney liked her, at least a little, otherwise his deception wouldn’t have worked.
Emma tends to see opportunities, where Snow and Charming see enemies. She can work with Rumplestiltskin (then again, she’s seen more of who Rumple really is than most people). She sees Rum as a possible ally.
but yeah, no, she and her parents are on completely different wavelengths here.
In which I agree entirely with Maridee on this one ^^^^
I think that’s the truly interesting thing about Emma, when compared to her parents: because she grew up in this world rather than the Enchanted Forest, she has so much less of this good/evil dichotomy built into her worldview. She is the Savior, yes, but she never, ever calls herself a hero, or one of the good guys, at least not with any sort of real conviction. She didn’t take down Regina for the greater good: she was planning to leave town and let her win. Anything ‘good’ she does, she does because it helps the people she loves, not for the sake of it.
She wasn’t brought up, as Snow was, with the memory of a loving mother who told her to always be a good person. She didn’t grow up with a doting father or a legacy to maintain or really any kind of moral guidance. Even David, who grew up a shepherd, had his mother there the whole time to tell him that he was one of the good guys, and that good always wins. It’s a well-known fact in the Enchanted Forest, but they’re not in the Forest anymore.
Emma, on the other hand, grew up in this world, knowing that the world doesn’t care if you’re a good person. She had to lie and steal just to survive, and she had to do it her whole life. She and Neal weren’t good or bad guys, they were just kids trying to get through the world unscathed. She has none of this conviction or allegiance toward ‘good’ as a concept, so she’s willing to look a little closer at Hook or Rumplestiltskin or even Regina, and not try to see the ‘good’ in them, but see what they’re trying to do and why and how that relates to her and her own actions. She was born in a world of black and white morality, but raised in a world of grey. So grey will always be what she sees.
Emma, more than any character in the whole show besides maybe Belle and Henry, sees everyone as a human being. Not a fairy tale character, not a role in a story, not a stepping stone to what she wants. There’re no heroes or villains in Emma’s world, just people doing what they’re doing for their own reasons. Emma is the only one who grew up entirely in this world, and so with the curse broken she’s the only one now capable of operating by its rules and its morality. Because she’s not in any book, she’s a real person, and now, so is everyone else.
emmaswans asked: love me with swan thief. because lord knows i need some fluff before this weekend! xD
Sometimes they weren’t homeless, raggedy teenagers. Sometimes - and only now and then, rarely, because they enjoyed their lives most of the time - they dressed up and played pretend. Like the children they’d both envied growing up, carefree and laughing, they play the prince and princess, and wear a suit and gown.
Stolen, of course, with stolen reservations to match. Neal would casually check out a fancy restaurant’s book while Emma pretended to need directions, and they’d pick a name they thought were unlikely to show up. Then they’d swan in, all dolled up in a dress and suit she’d found at a dry cleaner’s, and pretend to be Mr and Mrs van der Croft, out to dinner of an evening.
Tonight, Emma was sure her dress was worth more than their car, an ostentatious and floor-length red number that showed off more cleavage than anything else she’d ever worn. Neal, in the suit they’d managed to find in the same dry clean order as the dress, was certainly appreciative: he kept glancing at her chest and making remarks, casually, that made her face heat and her ears go red.
They called one another ‘Prudence’ and ‘Fitzwilliam’ all evening, giggling like schoolchildren and attempting to sound refined. Emma nearly lost it altogether when, faced with a snotty French waiter, Neal spent five minutes sniffing and making up bullshit comments about the wine sample he’d been given.
Finally, they’d eaten their $40 desserts, and it was time to bail before the bill came. Neal went first, slipping away to the bathroom to change into the hoodie and jeans he’d stashed there and slipping out the back with his face hidden. Emma followed, waiting for the wait staff to be preoccupied before slipping away to do the same, scraping her hair back and adding her glasses and hoodie before running out the back.
He was waiting around the corner - he was always waiting, always there, ready to catch her and smile and make the world bright - and he grasped her hand. “Run!” he whispered, and with matching grins they did just that, sneakers slamming the sidewalk as they disappeared into the city lights.
Fic: Of Bracelets On Cola Bottles
Title: Of Bracelets On Cola Bottles
Pairing: Swan Thief (Emma/Neal)
Summary: They give each other gifts, when they can: books and clothes and, ultimately, a baby.
A/N: Super-belated birthday fic for the completely awesome Celina! I hope you like it, love!
ftingleys asked: Omfgg you were taking prompts earlier?! Where was i?htuygujhgvy well if you are still taking them when can i request Neal steals a cupcake for Emma's birthday? ( i just want to think the cupcake from the pilot had hidden swanthief meaning :p)
Emma’s last celebrated birthday had been her fifth, and when she turned eighteen she didn’t think it would change: they lived in an old VW bug, after all, and there wasn’t exactly room for a party.
But she woke up on the morning of her eighteenth, to find herself covered in a long sheet of sparkly fabric, the whole bug hung with streamers, a wrapped gift in her lap, Neal grinning at her from the front.
“Happy birthday, Emma Swan,” he said, and his smile made her toes curl, “Have fun in true adulthood, have a stolen cake to go with your stolen car, gift and decorations!” he was grinning as he presented her with a little cupcake, a blue star candle in the centre, and lit it with a flourish of his cigarette lighter; Emma had never had a better birthday in all her life.
Fic: In Trouble
Fic: In Trouble
Pairing: Swan Thief (Neal/Emma)
Rating: high PG-13 for strong mentions of sex, and small mentions of past abuse
Summary: Emma Swan knows Neal is trouble from the moment she meets him, but he’s also everything she’s been looking for.
AN: wow, a full non-Rumbelle fic, this is a change! The full version of the snippet I posted last night, enjoy!
Three days after she met Neal Cassidy, Emma Swan knew she was in trouble.
For starters, he was a thief, and a reckless one at that. Sure, Emma herself had stolen food and supplies here and there, but the car was the first thing of value she’d ever gone for. And she only did that because she’d only got out of her final foster home a few days before, and Portland wasn’t safe to stay in much longer. She didn’t think her ex-boyfriend was going to come after her, but she could never be certain, psychotic as he could be.
Fic: Instinctual Reactions
Title: Instinctual Reactions
Summary: Emma grows up without her parents, and Mary Margaret and David are both childless and estranged, and yet they are all still connected somehow.
John Doe was in a coma.
Whale knew that: the nameless man on the third floor had been comatose since he’d been found an age ago. He lay stable but unmoving, unthinking, not really alive at all. They’d unplug him, had they the right, but mystery came without a next of kin, and the Mayor was only his emergency contact.
Fic: Visiting Hours
Title: Visiting Hours
Summary: Everyone’s been locked away at some point, and everyone’s had a visitor. Or what happens when the people of the Enchanted Forest can no longer run from their personal ghosts.
A/N: So this is a thank you to my 800 followers, because holy hell I have no idea how that happened but I LOVE YOU ALL.
They are to move to the King’s palace in the morning. Regina’s mother sleeps, beside her sleeping father; her new step-daughter sleeps; her future husband sleeps. Everyone sleeps, and Regina wonders how.
She can barely close her eyes for memories and they bring tears and a tearing, bleeding gash where her heart should be. Every moment she tries to sleep, she hears that terrible, choking, gasping noise her mother tore from Daniel’s throat, as she ripped the heart from his poor shaking chest and crushed it to ashes. She hears not her own screaming, nor her mother’s stern admonishments. She hears only choke, gasp, thud, silence.
Mad Swan. Pregnancy test.
“We’re calling it March.” Jefferson says, pacing, “Boy or girl.”
“We don’t even know if there’s a kid to name yet,” Emma scowls, sitting on the toilet, the pregnancy test carefully out of either of their sight, “And we’re not calling it anything fairytale-y. Nope. Plus you got to name Grace; I had my mom’s attempted murderer name my son after the man she killed to send a whole world to hell. I get to name this one.” She sighs, the fight draining out of her “I don’t even understand how this happened…”
Jefferson gives a low chuckle, and raises an eyebrow, “What part between the lingerie and the handcuffs didn’t you understand?”
He didn’t bank everything on it breaking that particular way: it would have broken had Emma died, as well. Barring that, it had to be True Love, and it had to be Emma. For all we know, given a bit more time Emma and Graham would have become True Love and that might have broken it. Even if she had aborted the child or decided to keep it, she would still have come back to Storybrooke: something would have lead her back there on her 28th birthday. That was part of the spell.
And anyway, her parents live there, and I think if given another season or so it’s likely that Emma and MM would have formed a close enough mother/daughter bond to break the Curse as well. Had Emma been the one to end up dying in a hospital bed, or MM for that matter, the other could have kissed their forehead as Emma did to Henry with the same effect. Emma just had to be in Storybrooke, and Gold worked with the circumstances as he had them from there. And there was always the death clause, if all else failed.
But I think there was also more to Henry’s adoption than we think right now. Gold had something to do with Regina getting him, we know that, and of all the kids in the USA (Henry was born in Phoenix, and Arizona’s a long way from Maine) Gold just happened to pick the Saviour’s kid? There’s something else there.
I think Gold did all he could to set it up that it would happen that way. But if it hadn’t - if something had gone wrong somewhere - he had more than enough fail-safes to compensate.

#look at his face #he’s just like ‘DAMMIT EMMA’ #’I told everyone you were the savior. you’re the one who’s going to save us all and break the curse.’ #’and you don’t know what a fucking sword is?’ #’I mean what does it look like? a leather jacket? we all know you have a fetish’ #’jeez I have a reputation to mantain here.’ #’okay it’s okay. I can turn this around.’ #’your father’s sword.’#’BAM! now it’s poetic.’ #’you’re welcome dearie.’ #’I’m starting to have doubts about sending you to fight a dragon.’
This is ten minutes before she walks into the building with “LIBRARY” printed over the door and asks “what is this place?”.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Saviour.
Hers is not to reason why, hers is but to do and die.
Don’t need to be overly endowed with brains to do that XD
Um… never? I don’t know anyone who has ever been ostracized for liking the Charmings… if you hate all of them then it must be pretty difficult to watch the show, to be honest, considering how they’re three of the leads.
I think the backlash, especially against Snowing but also the Charmings in general, is a response to some of the Belle, Bae, Rumpel, and to some extent Regina hate that has been going around, especially in the wake of Emilie de Ravin’s promotion. But as far as I’m aware, that’s a reaction to the actions of fans, not the characters themselves.
