Writing dark!Snow and Rum because I already wrote Belle angst today
I love her bitter and jaded, Ginny did such a good job. And Rum is facepalming all over the place because THIS WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN GODDAMN IT.
He didn’t expect to be scaling a wall to rescue a fake-prince with a sarcastic and entirely unamused former-princess, only to stand in a jail cell doing something very close to:
Speaking personally, I’m neutral about Gaston. I wanted to kick him in the fruits when he barged Belle out of the way at the start of the ep, but I hid behind my hands during the whole rose business. I’d love to see him in Storybrooke, but that’d be even worse than being killed by being turned into a flower, wouldn’t it? NOT being killed, then having your stem cut by your girlfriend, then whatever Rumpel did to him during his epic tantrum. Oy vey.
I think the problem is that he and Belle are not suited for each other at all. She wants someone a little more interesting, a bit of a challenge: she’s someone who wants to have that kind of passionate, almost painful love. She’s not as bland and innocent as some of the other princesses, she has depth and a bit of a bite to her too, and she needs someone to understand that. Rumpelstiltskin is mysterious and dark and powerful, and is still entirely besotted with her. She’s a little like a lot of us, in that way: she’s the girl who falls for the bad guy, who cheers for Loki in the cinema when Thor is the hero.
Gaston, on the other hand, is the kind of guy my best friend likes: he’s straight up and down, and he’s honest, and he’d probably tell you he likes your dress several times over for lack of something else to say. He pulls her back because knights stand between their ladies and danger. He probably doesn’t want her there at all, shouldn’t she be sewing something? He’s in the wrong fairy tale, with the wrong princess. He doesn’t want someone to challenge him, someone with an edge. He wants a pretty girl in a pretty dress, to say she likes it when he points his sword at things and beats the bad guys. We’ll be married in the morning!
