When there is an attempt on the life of Louis Bourbon, the young heir to the biggest business empire in France, and threats made against his young wife Anne, his controlling uncle Richelieu is quick to demand the protection of the Paris police department. Lieutenant Aramis is reluctantly assigned to Anne’s duty, ferrying her from university classes and around the streets of Paris and keeping her husband’s enemies at bay.
Aramis expects to be bored out of his mind protecting a pampered, spoiled heiress from very minor threats. But as they quickly get to know one another he soon starts to discover a much brighter, kinder, more perceptive young woman than he ever would have imagined. Anne starts to spend more and more time in libraries and coffee shops, away from the penthouse apartment she shares with her husband and enjoying the company of her handsome protector.
Aramis’ feelings don’t remain platonic for long, and Anne appears to reciprocate. But as Richelieu’s suspicions grow Aramis realises it’s time to start keeping his distance from his beautiful protectee, for both of their sake’s.
Then a gunman starts firing shots at Anne’s head, and all bets are off.
